Last week, a warm and festive atmosphere filled the campus of Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi. Gentle melodies, lively singing and glowing lights brought the spirit of the Winter Concert to every corner. The echoes of the evening still seem to linger in the air.
Winter Melodies That Warm the Heart
At the Winter concert, our students impressed the audience with their outstanding musicianship and growing stage confidence. With enthusiasm and heartfelt passion, they shared their remarkable talent, lifting the room with an energy that only young musicians can bring.
The string ensemble opened with a beautifully lyrical performance, their bow strokes light and expressive, weaving a warm and elegant sound that immediately drew the audience in. The wind ensemble followed, bringing colour and vibrancy to the hall through their rich and powerful harmonies. Choir performances from each year group — ranging from the pure, bell-like clarity of our youngest singers to the rich, layered harmonies of the older choirs — were equally enchanting.
Students then took turns on stage performing traditional carols and beloved festive classics. From bright, lively arrangements to tender, heartfelt melodies, their instrumental and vocal performances filled the theatre with warmth. Together, they set the tone for a joyful, spirited celebration that showcased not only their musical ability but the dedication and joy they bring to every rehearsal and performance.
Nurturing Young Musicians, One Sparkling Note at a Time
Behind this dazzling concert lies the robust music curriculum embedded throughout Dulwich Puxi’s learning framework, empowering students to explore and develop their limitless potential.
The music programme spans from Early Years through Senior School. A standout highlight is the Primary Instrumental Programme (PIP), which offers students from Year 1 to Year 6 the opportunity to learn orchestral instruments such as the violin, viola, cello, clarinet and percussion.
Each week, students receive dedicated instruction from specialist instrumental teachers, and they frequently share their progress through recitals and community events. Through this constant cycle of learning and performing, their creativity, skill and love for music are continuously nurtured and strengthened.
It is this steady accumulation of practice and passion that enabled students to deliver such an impressive Winter Concert this year. On stage, the entire hall could feel their skill and artistry, the results of dedication and practice. From bow to breath to voice, the students made a lasting mark with their music — a cherished milestone in their growth.
