Are you addicted to a screen? Do you know how to say goodbye to technology, even if you’re not ready? How about being kind online, knowing how to join and facilitate positive digital communities, or being critical media consumers? With October 2022 marking the tenth anniversary of Digital Citizenship Week, these are just some of the questions that students at Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi will be pondering over the coming days.

As a Common Sense School, we pride ourselves on our digital citizenship and esafety provision for students from Early Years through to Year 13. Throughout the academic year, our students already take part in a number of lessons around topics such as online safety, relationships, media literacy, balance, and more. Digital Citizenship Week kicks learning that into high gear with a daily focus on a different element of digital citizenship. Beginning with a Senior school assembly today (Monday 17 October), students will then spend time each day on topical discussion questions, games, and activities with a particular focus on digital wellbeing and balance.

Our academic staff will also have the chance to increase their knowledge with optional Professional Learning resources provided to them. They may even wish to take this further by applying to become a certified Common Sense Educator – a qualification that recognises the dedication and commitment our teachers have to teaching students how to use technology responsibly and safely.
