Dulwich Puxi Met Jane Goodall
For students at Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi, meeting Dr. Jane Goodall, one of the most influential conservationists of our time, was nothing short of a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Representing the school at the Roots & Shoots Festival at the China Science and Technology Museum in Beijing, our students had the incredible opportunity to stand alongside the world’s foremost expert on chimpanzees and a true global icon of environmental activism.
Dr. Jane Goodall
the celebrated English zoologist, primatologist, and anthropologist, is widely regarded asthe world's leadingexpert on chimpanzees, withover 60 years of research into their social andfamilial interactions in the wild. Her visit was aprofound moment for the Dulwich Puxi community.
The atmosphere at the festival was one of anticipation and respect. Attendees waited quietly as Dr. Goodall arrived in the afternoon. When she appeared at the elevator entrance, a ripple of applause broke out, and everyone respectfully maintained their distance behind security lines as she visited each booth. Warm and engaging, she greeted everyone with kindness and even posed for photos.
When she met our students, she exclaimed, “What you are doing is amazing!” They presented her with Monty, our school mascot, which she received with genuine delight: “Is this for me? You’re too kind. Thank you!"
Later, our students attended an award ceremony and listened to Dr. Goodall’s inspiring speech in the museum’s cinema. At 90 years old, she stood on stage with unwavering energy, sharing the story of how her mother encouraged her to follow her dreams. She spoke about the 38 years she spent studying chimpanzees in Africa and urged everyone to take action to protect the environment. Her words left a lasting impression, reminding us all of our responsibility to preserve our planet.

The Beijing trip was a really great experience for all of us, and we were very lucky to meet Jane Goodall herself. It was such a great time going to the science museum and learning about so much. I hope we can do more activities like this in the future.
