From Dulwich to Oxford: Sage advice from an Old Alleynian

Today, as part of our University and Careers Counseling services, Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi Senior School students met with Ms. Zoe Zhang, a Dulwich College Alumni who attended Oxford University for her undergraduate studies.

Ms. Zhang now works for Education in Motion (EIM) as a Student and Alumni Success Associate, and we were delighted to have her join us virtually for this opportunity. Ms. Zhang shared her personal story and lessons from her academic life. These lessons were important for our students to hear, as we constantly seek to instill in them a wide range of perspectives so that they may adapt, learn and improve their own habits. It is important for our students to hear what it is truly going to take to be accepted into a respected university like Oxford. As a member of the Dulwich College International family of schools, we have at our fingertips the resources, expertise and talent to work with our students and provide them the greatest chances of success. But true success will come down to their own attitude of Aiming High and Working Hard to achieve their dreams. It will take time, commitment consistency and effort.

Having Ms. Zhang share her personal take on what universities are looking for - and what students can be doing now to make themselves successful candidates - was very powerful. Hearing this message from a former Dulwich College student who was just like them 5-10 years ago makes the message all the more meaningful and profound.
