Global Citizenship Panel: Perspectives from Industry Leaders

On Tuesday, 23 November, Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi hosted our first Global Citizenship Panel ‘Perspectives on Global Citizenship from Leaders in the Shanghai International Community’. We were thrilled to be joined by leaders from a range of sectors, who spoke with our Senior School students about what it means to be a Global Citizen in industry the 21st century. 

This year, Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi have launched a new Global Citizenship Competency Framework covering 5 Key Strands;

- Service

- Environmental Sustainability

- Intercultural Understanding

- Diversity

- Social Justice

Students have been discussing these competencies and embedding them throughout their daily lives and within the curriculum. The Global Citizenship Panel provided a unique opportunity for students to learn about how these elements of global citizenship are integrated into the modern workplace, and are critical to the success of senior leaders within the Shanghai and global business communities. 

The panel was hosted and moderated by Mr Zarate, College Guidance Counselor, and took place in two sessions across the morning. 

The panelists were;

  Founder & CEO of JWDK and Board Member at British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai
• Annabel Lin
  Managing Director of Greater China Solution Specialists and APAC International Growth Team at Google
• John Munro
  Founder, CEO and Chief Creative Officer at Immersive
• Alex Roberts
  Counsel for Linklaters LLP and Board Member at British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai
• Chris Torrens
  Partner at Control Risks Greater China and North Asia

Some of the questions discussed included;

• How critical is it for industries to have a strong intercultural understanding in the 21st century?
• How does promoting diversity in industry lead to better outcomes for society and the world?
• How can global citizens be positive agents for change in the industry that they work for?

In addition, students posed their own questions; challenging pre-conceived notions of what global citizenship stands for and learning more about how these concepts are valued by industry leaders. 

We are truly grateful to all panel attendees for spending time with our students and exemplifying what it means to be a global citizen in the 21st century.
