Happy Chinese New Year! Dulwich Puxi Celebrates CNY丨新春快乐!上海浦西德威喜迎中国年
How Dulwich Puxi Celebrates Chinese New Year
On 6 February 2026, students and families gathered at Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi to welcome the Year of the Horse and celebrate the new year.
Early Years:
Learning and Laughing Together
Excitement flickered across tiny faces as Early Years students shaped dumplings into uneven crescents, showing off their work to proud family members. Brushes traced characters across paper, sometimes neat, sometimes wobbly. Stories of the Twelve Zodiac animals inspired questions, giggles and comparisons about which animal might be fastest or cleverest, while teachers guided the children, offering tips and encouragement, helping them discover new skills while celebrating small successes.
Temple Fair:
Students Lead the Fun and Charity
The Temple Fair invited students to design and run colourful stalls across the campus. For example, Year 8 operated the 'Elevated Honey' booth, while Year 12 hosted Chinese chess matches, lucky draws and personal website exhibits to raise funds for partner schools in Guizhou. Students from the Chinese Culture elective ran the 'Heart-to-Heart' charity booth, engaging visitors with crafts and games while supporting children in need. Families explored the stalls, trying their hand at activities and cheering on participants.
Whole School Assembly:
Celebrating Chinese Culture on Stage
In the assembly, students showcased their preparation and talents. Choirs performed traditional songs, dancers spun in vibrant costumes and martial artists moved with precision and focus. Calligraphy demonstrations and recitations added quieter moments amid the performances. Children leaned forward, whispering predictions, while families clapped and cheered, celebrating effort, skill and playful surprises alike.
Wishing You Joy and Prosperity
From dumpling workshops and sugar painting to games, performances and charity activities, students and families experienced a day of creativity, learning and fun. As the Year of the Horse begins, everyone at Dulwich Puxi looks forward to a year of curiosity, playful learning and new experiences.
Happy Chinese New Year! May everyone enjoy energy, laughter and memorable moments in the months ahead.
