Personalised Pathways: From Dulwich to Top US Art College

Aim High Together: Student Stories
At Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to uncover their strengths, pursue their passions, and carve out their own unique path. That’s what personalised pathways in Dulwich Puxi are all about - nurturing individual potential through holistic education, rich experiences, and the confidence to dream big. This philosophy is the foundation of our new article series, ‘Aim High Together’, where we share real student stories that highlight how personalised learning and strong community support empower exceptional outcomes.
We begin with the story of Jack K, a founding student who joined us in Year 6 and now stands ready to begin the next chapter of his journey on the global stage.

The Power of Personalised Pathways
Holistic Education that Inspires Curiosity and Growth
At Dulwich Puxi, we pride ourselves on delivering a rigorous and balanced curriculum that integrates academic success with creative exploration, which allows students like Jack to turn a budding interest into a focused strength.
When Jack first joined Dulwich Puxi, he quickly developed a deep interest in art, especially drawing. Recognising his passion, our comprehensive art curriculum provided ample opportunities and resources for exploration.

Jack K
What I love most is the school’s Makerspace, there’s 3D printing, laser cutting, and design workshops - it’s a space where I can build, explore, and bring ideas to life.

Worldwise Opportunities to Showcase Talent
As an international school, we provide students with meaningful global platforms to exhibit their talents and connect with global communities. These experiences enrich personal portfolios and align with what top universities look for - creativity, initiative, and authenticity.
Last November, Dulwich Puxi partnered with The Expatriate Centre (TEC) to exhibit student work at the FutureLab art exhibition at the West Bund Art Centre. Jack was one of several students selected across Years 8 to 13. That evening, he received two awards for his outstanding work - the Best Design Award for his 3D art piece "Alpha" and the Best Visual Award for his 2D animation "Hierarchy."

Jack’s portfolio also impressed visiting university representatives during campus events. In fact, during one of these visits, representatives from the School of Visual Arts offered him a scholarship on the strength of his exhibited work.

These opportunities - to exhibit, compete, and connect with professionals - are part of what makes a Dulwich Puxi education unique.

Personalised Support from a Dedicated Team
Jack’s academic and artistic journey was supported by teachers who not only understood his aspirations, but helped him map out the skills and experiences he needed to succeed.
To balance his IB coursework with his artistic development, Jack worked closely with the academic team to build a personalised timetable - one that met the entrance criteria of top art universities while giving him the time to focus on his creative projects.

Jack K
After entering the IB, everyone’s timetable became quite different. The school designed a schedule that worked best for my goals - fewer IB subjects, early leave twice a week, and more time to work on my portfolio.
The school arranged multiple meetings with my family to tailor my academic plan. They considered what I needed for university and helped me focus my time where it mattered most.
Look Ahead
A Launchpad to the Future
Jack’s achievements are a testament to what’s possible when students are empowered to follow their personalised path. And his story is just one of many.
