Resources: Mental Health and Wellbeing Services for Shanghai

At Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi, we put the wellbeing of our community members as our utmost priority. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our caring and dedicated student services team have provided ongoing support not only for students, but also for staff and parents.

Well Families Coordinator and Student Services Lead, Natasha Dennis, has been at the forefront of this programme. Whether it is daily and weekly check-ins with students, social and emotional support, parent workshops and academies, or bespoke programmes of support to target those in need, our continuous provision aims to ensure that everyone in our community has the resources they need to survive and thrive throughout this challenging period. In this article, the Student Services team aim to share a broad range of support services that are available to members of the Shanghai community. We wish to share the following message loud and clear; this is a difficult time, and it is OK to reach out for help. If you or anyone around you is struggling with social and emotional or mental health, please take advantage of the following resources. Take care of yourself!

 

Parent Workshops

In the initial weeks of the most recent lockdowns, the Student Services team ran a series of three Parent Workshops, open to the public. These workshops, titled ‘Supporting Children in Online Learning’. Led by Natasha Dennis, Well Families and Student Services Lead, Alex Yang, Social and Emotional Counsellor, and Elliot Lu, Student Services Assistant Teacher, covered topics relevant to helping parents support children’s wellbeing while they study online. Lifeline Shanghai

Lifeline is an English-speaking helpline, which provides free, confidential, and anonymous emotional support for anything from the little stresses of daily life to more acute issues. After someone calls in, hotline assistants help by suggesting additional services in Shanghai or simply by listening. Call between 10am and 10pm, 365 days a year. During lockdowns, Lifeline can be contacted via WeChat.
