Speech Day 2025: Celebrating Outstanding Student Achievement

As the curtain closed on the 2024–2025 academic year, we gathered as a community to honour the extraordinary achievements of our students at Speech Day - a cherished Dulwich tradition that captures the spirit, ambition and values of our College.
This annual celebration shines a light on the individuals who have not only excelled in academics, the arts and sport, but who have also demonstrated kindness, resilience, and a commitment to making a difference. Our awards are closely aligned with our College values - Aim High Together, Work Hard Together, Be Kind and Respectful Together, and Make a Difference Together. Each winner has exemplified these in their own unique way.
Carver Award
The Reverend Alfred Carver was one of Dulwich College’s most celebrated Masters. He is remembered for his commitment to excellence and the tradition of academic scholarship. The Carver Award is awarded to students who embrace the Dulwich curriculum with passion and vigour. They display a faultless attitude of excellence towards all their work. These students are academically successful due to pure hard work and commitment. Behind the scenes these students are extremely ambitious, putting huge amounts of effort into their academic performance. They are known for their organised approach to learning and their thirst for knowledge. The three students with the highest combine attainment results in their phase of school will receive nomination for the Carver Award, after which the shortlist and selection process commences.
This year’s Carver Award winners are:
Ma Da Dong Service Award
Ma Da Dong is a highly regarded local philanthropist, known for his commitment to preserving China’s cultural and environmental heritage. The Ma Da Dong Award is presented to the Senior School student who has made an outstanding contribution to service in our College community. This student has demonstrated their ability to make a positive difference by serving or supporting others, and the environment. This student has most championed change for good and recipients have often prepared business plans or led student activities which promote change and a positive difference. Consideration is given to both active service and advocacy.

Christine Haslett Award
Christine Haslett Award celebrates the legacy of Founding Deputy Head of College Christine Haslett, who played a vital role in establishing Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi.
Christine Haslett Award is awarded to one incredible Year 1 or Year 2 student each year. It recognises outstanding students who embody our College values at every opportunity.
This year’s Christine Haslett Award winner is:
McDouall Award
Brian McDouall was a former Director of Education of Dulwich College International, who played an instrumental role in the founding of Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi. The McDouall Award is awarded to one incredible student in Junior School and one in Senior School each year. Like Christine Haslett Award, McDouall Award recognises outstanding students who embody our College values at every opportunity.

Chuan Cheng Award - Chinese Culture Award
Chuan Cheng Award – Chinese Culture Award was awarded to a student who has demonstrated strong understanding of our host culture and contributed to our community’s engagement with our host culture over the year.

Sports Award
Winners of the Sports Award are recognised for their outstanding contribution to College sports based on calibre and level of performance, sportsmanship, team spirit and leadership. They have demonstrated the most terrific attitude in their sporting endeavours. They are highly motivated to achieve and actively look for ways to improve their skills. They are natural coaches in a team environment, always supporting their team mates to get the best result. These students are true Mustangs. They play and compete in sports with pride, passion, desire and belief.

Music Award
Our Music Award recognises students who are dedicated and committed to their own endeavours of music mastery. Evaluated on standard of performance, representation of College, progress in musicianship and leadership in College musical life, Music Award students are active contributors to the College orchestras and choirs. They have made outstanding progress in their musicianship this year, embracing opportunities for live performance on and off the stage. Consideration is given to representing the College and formal examinations.

Earhart Endeavour Award
Amelia Earhart was a pioneering aviator, who was one of the original inspirations for the Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi House system. The Earhart Endeavour Awards are presented to students who have demonstrated a positive effort, attitude and work ethic over the course of the year. Consideration is given to rates of progress, behavior for learning and a positive contribution to class culture.
These students make a huge effort in their class work, and contribute positively to their class environment. These students are not afraid to make mistakes, and embody a growth mindset in all they do. As winners of the Earhart Endeavour Award, these students show perseverance and determination and face challenge bravely. These students are incredibly organised, demonstrating comprehensive learning plans and always seeking to clarify and understand their learning challenges.
