Community Together: A Day of Discovery at Naera Organic Farm

19 May 2024 marked a delightful highlight in the Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi calendar, as our Friends of Dulwich (FoD) hosted the unforgettable Family Day at the scenic Naera Organics Farm. This event not only brought together our community but also offered an opportunity for families to engage directly with the wonders of nature.

The day commenced with an invigorating farm tour, during which our young adventurers and their families visited the bustling chicken coop, kicking off their 'Close to Nature' experience with enthusiasm. The farm visit was especially memorable as it allowed children and their families to connect through a series of engaging and hands-on activities. Divided into three groups, the children delighted in seasonal vegetable picking, crafted beautiful dry flower wreaths, painted animals with great gusto, and interacted joyously with the farm animals.

Those memorable experiences made the day not just fun but also informative, which helped our young minds learn about sustainable living and the origins of our food, deepening our community’s connection to the natural world.

As we reflect on this unforgettable adventure, we are reminded of the strong sense of community. The Family Day at Naera Organics Farm was more than a day out; it was indeed a beautiful testament to our community’s spirit, nurturing an environment where every community member can thrive together in learning and joy.

Head of College,

Our younger students enjoyed the opportunity to connect with nature at the Naera farm. Thank you to our dedicated FoD committee for organising this meaningful opportunity to learn about how our food is grown and healthy eating.  The farm visit was special because it included time with family and friends. I really enjoyed my time with our community at Naera Organic Farm.

Here are some comments from some parents:

My kids absolutely enjoyed the farm day and parents had so much fun gathering together! It was a great opportunity to spend time with the kids and also with other families, the community of Dulwich felt much closer. Sicily said her best part of the farm day was digging the potatoes.

This is a very interesting day. The children experienced various activities and delicious food on the farm. After finishing, the children said that it was really hot to harvest vegetables in such hot weather. Finally, they knew that the farmers were not easy, and they also knew that food was not easy to come by. They also said that food should not be wasted in the future. Everyone had a great time and it was a great day.

Go to the vegetable garden and get some vegetables home, this is my favorite part.

The event was delightful, providing an opportunity for parents to mingle and children to play together. The day was relaxed with not too many structured activities, making it a lovely outing for the families. The venue was excellent, and I hope we can organize it again next time!
