Values in Action: Leadership in Primary School丨学生领导力，在行动中见成长
At Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi, leadership is cultivated from an early age with a focus on values, action, and inclusivity.
On Friday, 5 December, the Primary School held its Student Leadership Assembly to recognise the work of students who have made a tangible difference in our community.
The assembly brought together students and teachers to highlight initiatives that support peers, raise the awareness of environmental protection and inspire others. It offered a moment to reflect on the outcomes of student-led projects and to recognise the qualities that drive positive change, including kindness, responsibility and initiative.
Defining Leadership
The assembly began with Head Students inviting peers to discuss what makes a good leader. Students identified listening, empathy, care for the community and personal responsibility as essential qualities. These attributes have guided the work of student leaders across the term.
Democratic Principles and Community Care
Student Council Election Coordinators explained how they organised elections across Years 2–6, using secret ballots to ensure every student's voice was included. Ten Student Council members were elected, giving students a genuine role in shaping school life.
Two initiatives focused on empathy and inclusion. The Kindness Squad supported children who were feeling isolated, while the Playground Squad organised games and activities that welcomed all students. These efforts strengthened the sense of community and made daily life at school more supportive.
Environmental Stewardship
The Agents of Change encouraged the school to adopt sustainable habits. Initiatives like No Carbon November and the Carbon Captains programme helped students reduce their environmental impact. The creation of a pollinator corridor on school grounds highlighted the students' care for the environment and their commitment to practical solutions.
Inspiring Through Stories
The Library Champions connected older and younger students by writing and performing original stories during the Spooky Disco. This project encouraged reading and creative writing while fostering cross-year friendships.
