Overall Introduction: Our University and Careers Counselling (UCC) 

Our Approach to College and University Admissions Counselling

At Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi, our University and Careers Counselling department is dedicated to preparing students for success in higher education and beyond. Through our bespoke 7 Year Pathway to University programme, we offer personalised guidance for students and their families, focusing on key development themes from early interest exploration in Year 7 to final university applications in Year 13. With practical tools, targeted activities, and up-to-date resources, we empower each student with the knowledge and skills to secure the university placement that best challenges their unique aspirations and potential.

UCC provision 

At Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi, UCC is a holistic teamwork which encompasses students, parents, teachers, mentors, and university and careers counsellors. We provide parent pathway programme to hone parents the skills and share intentional guidance that would best challenge child’s potential at home. Our student provision prepares students from Year 7 with habits construction to intentional acknowledgment learning on who they are as a person to Year 9’s IGCSE selection according to their academic passion, to their final year of university application.  Some of the popular programs provided in our UCC department are: 

  • University Workshop (Whole school) – deliverance of university programs provided by different higher education institutions around the world 
  • University and Careers Workshop (Whole school) – theme-based topics categorised according to different higher education systems and their admissions processes and updates around the world (e.g. US Higher Education systems and Mock Admissions...) 
  • 1-2-1 University and Careers Meeting (Years 7-13) – plan out bespoke activities and projects for each student and create their unique profile according to their strengths, passion, and the result of their 24 VIA characters and/or career test results.  
  • University Fair (whole school) - DCSPX is a member of the fair organizer for the Shanghai University Fair Committee and runs university fair once every three to four years for our community in Shanghai. We invite university representatives around the world to our fair to talk to our students and parents about their higher education programs and opportunities.  
  • University Tour and Culture Immersion Project (Years 9-13) – DCSPX provides overseas university learning tour and cultural immersion program for both students and parents to learn about the different higher education systems, careers opportunities, as well as lifestyle around the world. We choose our tour location intentionally to enable our families to have an immersive experience in different locations in the US, the UK, HK, Southeast Asia, and Australia.  
  • Careers Day (Years 7-13) Careers Day is designed for students to learn about the different careers opportunities and the relevant skills needed for different industries. We invite industry professionals to deliver workshops on what they do for their careers and the relevant trend in their industry regarding skills and knowledge HR team is looking for. We teach students how to write their resume before the careers day so that they can conduct mock interviews with real-life HR team. 
  • Careers Insight Day (Year 12) - This is a bespoke program designed for our Year 12 students to explore careers through shadowing and practical learning. 
  • Academic Enrichment Programme (Whole school) – Our CCA is designed to challenge students more academically as well as sports wise.

Meet Our University and Career Counselling Team at Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi 

Luyi Feng, Head of University and Careers Counsellor

Luyi is a Chinese Canadian. She graduated with a BA in Geography and a TESOL certificate from the University of Victoria, and received her MA in Educational Leadership in Practice from The University of Manchester. Luyi has worked in various positions across schools in North America and Asia. With her many years of teaching, leading, and university counselling experience, Luyi has supported students to obtain admissions to universities from around the world – Penn, Brown, UCLA, Cambridge, Oxford, Vassar College, UAL, Peking U, HKU, UBC, etc. She acknowledges university application process as a long-term self-learning journey and is especially passionate in discovering young people's potential and how that prowess would allow them to endeavour in the long term. Therefore, the bespoke design of the 7-Year Pathway Programme is constructed intentionally for her students to find out who they are and what they would enjoy doing in their lifelong journey.  

Luyi is a member of International Association for College Admissions Counselling (IACAC) and CIS and has 15 years of experience in education. She has worked in different roles for these global associations and cherishes the access these memberships provide her with to bring in the first-hand information to her parents and students.  "The university process is a teamwork’ and she hopes to build a trustworthy, empowering, and collaborative team for her students’ journey to university.
