In this session, we aim to impart our expertise and practical insights on the highly relevant topic of "Promoting Independence in Teens: Helping your Teen become Independent and Successful." It is important for children and young people to develop their independence as it is about learning to do things for oneself, which includes making decisions and taking responsibility. These are skills that children will need later in life as they go to university and into the world of work. It will also develop their self-esteem and build their confidence as well as having lots of other amazing benefits, which will support them in becoming a WorldWise citizen. In this Parents as Partners webinar, we will investigate what independence is and why it is so vital to the development of adolescents. We will discuss different ways that we can promote our own children at home to be independent, such as with their daily routines, social relationships, communication, with homework and schoolwork and with aspects of their own wellbeing. We will share our professional experiences at Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi in the best ways to support independence in adolescents and look forward to offering concrete methods that parents can use to support their children at home and in the wider community.
