Dulwich Values in Sport
There are so many important and excellent values in sport, but at Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi, we emphasise four core values: Pride, Passion, Resilience, and Respect. These values guide our coaching philosophy and are instilled in our students at all opportunities.
Respect towards fellow players, the opposing team, coaches, referees, and the parents who support their children's sporting endeavours is fundamental. Respect in sport reflects respect in all areas of life and learning. It speaks of integrity, a valuable attribute we encourage in our young people. Whether in victory or defeat, maintaining respect and integrity is paramount.
At Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi, all our teachers consistently promote these values. From our youngest to our oldest, we expect our students to cheer their teammates, thank their opponents, shake hands at the end of a match, and express gratitude to referees and coaches.
Our College sports icon, the mustang, embodies our values of Pride, Passion, Resilience, and Respect. The Pride associated with representing our College pushes us to perform to the best of our ability. Passion brings fun and enthusiasm to the games we play. Resilience encourages us to remain steadfast in the face of adversity, nurturing the desire to win while graciously accepting defeat when it comes. And, Respect underscores the importance of honouring all participants in the game, a value that extends beyond the sporting arena into everyday life.
These Dulwich Mustang values are embedded in each sports lesson, fostering these values as second nature in our students.
At Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi, over 90% of our Junior and Senior students have represented the College in competitive sports. We attribute this high level of participation to the fact that our students genuinely enjoy the spirit of sport and the values we promote. We make it fun and meaningful. Parents appreciate our commitment to reinforcing these values, and their support, whether on the sidelines encouraging their child or reinforcing these principles at home, takes our shared respect and values to a whole new level.
