In this session, we aim to impart our expertise and practical insights on the highly relevant topic of "Promoting Independence in Young Children: How to Help your Child Grow by Developing Independence." Research has shown that it is incredibly important to promote independence of children, and that a child’s ability to be independent can support their social and emotional growth, as well as academic ability. Expectations of independence will depend on the child’s developmental age and stage, and the workshop aims to support parents to know what to expect of their children at each age group. Ms. Kerr will give hints and tips to parents in the workshop on how they can promote independence with their children to set them up for success in the future. How can I teach my 3 year old to get dressed by himself? How can I support my child who is in Year 6 to complete their homework by themselves? We will share our professional experiences at Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi in the best ways to support independence in children and offer concrete methods that parents can use to support their children at home and in the wider community.
