Best Use of Technology: Dulwich Puxi Wins Tes Award 2024

Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi has proudly won the Best Use of Technology Award at the Tes Awards for International Schools 2024, a testament to our pioneering spirit and forward-thinking programmes. Our teaching and learning carefully embed ethical usage of artificial intelligence, benefiting our students from DUCKS to Senior School.
Innovative AI Integration Across Levels
Our award-winning 'Holistic AI for All' program exemplifies cutting-edge AI integration in teaching and learning. AI's impact at Dulwich Puxi is evident in improved academic metrics such as increased writing scores, higher homework completion rates, and enhanced knowledge retention in mathematics. Furthermore, AI has been leveraged to streamline administrative tasks, freeing our teachers to focus more on teaching and less on bureaucracy.

At Dulwich Puxi, we nurture a culture where students and educators can pioneer new ideas and practices, and there has been no greater measure of this pioneering spirit than the integration of AI into our learning, and our teaching. Our focus is not on leaning on this new technology as a crutch, but on developing our insight in it as one of our many tools for working.
The Diploma Programme is one which focuses on the development of learner agency, and the ways in which our teachers and students have developed their own tools which programme AI to work for them has greatly increased their capacity to lead their learning and to enquire into the big problems of today, which will need creative application of a variety of subject disciplines and their toolsets to solve.
Promoting Ethical AI Usage
In addition to technological advancement, we place a strong emphasis on the ethical use of AI. To counter the challenges of over-reliance on AI, we have instilled a strong ethical framework surrounding its use. Educational campaigns and visual prompts on campus encourage the responsible use of AI, ensuring it complements rather than replaces traditional learning methods. By balancing technological advancement with ethical standards, we not only enhance educational outcomes but also prepare a generation of students to navigate the complexities of an AI-driven world responsibly.

This recognition is a testament to the innovative integration of educational technology across the curriculum, led by Amelia King, Director of EdTech, and our talented team of teachers.

Receiving this award is an amazing honour and really highlights the way in which DCPSX is a pioneering school, not just within our community here in Shanghai but across the globe. We are proud of the ways in which we use AI to support the well-being and workload of teachers and students whilst also paying attention to both the ethical and environmental impacts of our usage. Already we have increased our donation to the Million Trees Project to offset some of the impact of AI use and developed our staff understanding of ethical AI use through training and development programmes. Having ethics and wellbeing highlighted as unique strengths of our application shows that we are on the right track and that our focus is in the right place. We are proud to be a school that leads in this area and look forward to seeing what more we can achieve moving forward.
