Mustangs Challenges: Dulwich Puxi Makes a Difference Every Day!

The Mustangs Challenge has long been a fixture of daily life in the Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi community; challenging our community members to rally around the College mascot, the Mustang, to make a meaningful difference on a regular basis.

DCSPX Mustangs Challenges

Prior to the Spring Break, Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi launched two Mustangs Challenges for students and parents to participate in while in lockdown.

Make a Difference at Home Challenge
————

DCSPX Mustangs Challenges

We challenged our students to submit 15 second video demonstrating how they made a difference at home, or in their local community, during this unique period. Below are some of the incredible entries.

Katherine, Year 4

My name is Katherine from Y4C Tigers. The entire city of Shanghai has hit a pause button because of COVID-19. Seeing how hard the community workers work and how much my parents donate. I felt that I could not go out and what I could do was very limited, so I took out my pocket money and bought two boxes of 120 protective suits and donated them to the local government to show my heart. Hope Shanghai will get better soon!

Isaac, Year 4

During the COVID-19 l helped my family do some housework. I did this so I can make them less tired and let them have more rest.

Sky, Reception

Adults can teach children knowledge, and as a kid, I can also teach grown-ups some new knowledge. I’m going to teach my great-Grandpa how to use the iPad today.

Brian, Year 3

I am in my hometown where there is no COVID-19 cases currently so people are always forgetting to wear masks when going to the shopping mall though they are required to do so. I am distributing masks at the entrance for free to remind them of protecting themselves during this special period.

Leo, Year 6

These two productions are made of old cardboard. One is a basketball backboard and rim. The other is a model house with solar light panels. It is re-useable and will make your life more wonderful.

Jessie, Year 5

Sustainability Champions Challenge

The second challenge was to submit 15 second video demonstrating how they created something new, or taught the community how to create something new, from recycled materials. Check out some of the amazing entries below.

Angie, Year 4

For the #dulwichcollegeshanghaipuxi Mustangs Challenge #SustainabilityChampions Challenge we want to show you how to make hanging planters out of recycled bottles. They are easy to make and great for growing plants in places like balconies. You can even join more than one bottle together. Anyone can make them.

Raina, Year 3

Since we have much more time to explore our house and yard because of quarantine, Raina found a secret bin which was very stinky. [破涕为笑] Actually we tried Bokashi (a Japanese way to compost food waste) but we failed. Raina decided to change it, so she did some research and she found that most of the methods were talking about no meat or bones. So how about meat, bones or anything about animals? She continued the research and now we were trying two different ways to compost food waste. We will continue to observe in the next month and looking forward to our successful results!

James, Year 3

Being sustainable is important to humans because if we don't act quickly, we might not have enough drink or food and we will not be able to survive. Other creatures will not survive either. Everyone can help by using sustainable materials instead of plastic. In this vlog, you will learn how to make a bag out of old bed sheets. You can try to design your own sustainable item out of sustainable materials. Let's work together to save the planet!

Victoria, Year 3

Due to limitations of the platform, we are only able to share a small sample of the submissions here. All those who submitted their challenge are in the running to win.

Now comes the difficult part of choosing a winner. Hard deliberations will take place, and the winners will be announced in the Dulwich Voice weekly newsletter soon!

Congratulations to everyone who took part in these challenges!
