UKMT Junior Maths Challenge: Celebrating Extraordinary Success

DCSPX UKMT Junior Maths Challenge

This year, an inspiring cohort of 50 students from Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi stepped up to the challenge and participated in the rigorous UKMT Junior Maths Challenge. This international competition, known for its demanding problems and high standards, has become a standard fixture in the academic year for our budding mathematicians. They excelled yet again, amassing an impressive total of 31 awards – 10 Bronze, 11 Silver, and 10 Gold. Year 6 proved to be particularly noteworthy, with Broadford Q taking home the Best in School award and securing an invitation to the Junior Mathematical Olympiad; an invitation only follow-up event for those who perform exceptionally well.

What is the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge?

The UKMT Junior Maths Challenge is a prestigious contest that invites students up to Year 8 to grapple with complex mathematical problems. The challenge “encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency” (UKMT.org), using multiple-choice mathematical questions that are designed to be intriguing and to require logical reasoning and mathematical thinking. Excelling in the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge requires creative and out-of-the-box thinking.
