Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi is delighted to announce the commencement of our partnership with Girls Make Games (GMG), an initiative aimed at promoting the participation of girls in STEAM fields, particularly game development. Seven girls from Years 7-9 have enrolled in the inaugural GMG elective series, where they will spend the next eight weeks designing and developing a working video game prototype. The programme aims to equip the students with essential game design and coding skills, as well as broader competencies such as pixel art creation and 8-bit game music development.

During the first week, the girls familiarised themselves with Construct 3, a popular game development software used by industry giants like EA, Sega, Zynga, and King. As part of the partnership with GMG, the students will receive weekly feedback and tips from mentors worldwide who have successfully developed their own games. Some of these mentors are currently enrolled in top universities, offering unique insights and expertise to the girls. The programme's main goal is to inspire the students to pursue careers in the gaming industry and other STEAM fields, where women are often underrepresented.

Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi and GMG share a commitment to empowering young women and providing them with equal opportunities to thrive in the world of technology and gaming. This collaboration is a prime exmaple of that commitment. We eagerly await the game prototypes that the girls will produce and look forward to sharing their innovative projects with the wider community at the end of the term.
