No Carbon November Impact Day: Making a Difference Together
No Carbon November Impact Day
The Impact Day showcased the school’s commitment to sustainability through collective action, engaging activities, and practical learning. Students, parents, and teachers united to explore ways to reduce carbon footprints, embrace eco-friendly habits, and promote global citizenship, embodying the values that make Dulwich Puxi a community with purpose.
How did Dulwich Puxi celebrate the meaningful day? Let’s hear the story from Mrs Ellah Asplet.
On Thursday, 28 November, Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi participated in the No Carbon November Impact Day, a special event designed to conclude a month-long initiative focused on environmental awareness and sustainable practices. This day brought the entire school community together to celebrate their commitment to combating climate change and promoting eco-friendly habits.
The Impact Day featured a variety of activities aimed at engaging students of all ages and reinforcing the importance of making conscious decisions that benefit our planet.
Inspiring Assembly: Discussion and Insights Sharing
The day kicked off with an inspiring assembly through an informative video presentation by our very own Senior School students, where they discussed the significance of No Carbon November and shared insights on how small changes can lead to a big impact on the environment. Additionally, Junior School students performed a skit emphasising the importance of collective action in protecting our planet. This assembly set a positive tone for the day, celebrating the efforts the school community had made throughout the month.
Hands-on Experiences
Following the assembly, all primary students participated in a collaborative Padlet activity. This interactive session was designed to educate students about No Carbon November and encourage them to brainstorm actionable steps to combat climate change. The activity incorporated the school’s global citizenship competencies and aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Students explored topics such as nature art and data handling, examining how they got to school and assessing their carbon footprints. This engaging platform allowed students to share ideas and inspire each other to take meaningful action.
Zero Meat Cooking-Sustainable eating habits
One of the highlights of the Impact Day was the Zero Meat Cooking Sessions. Each year group in Primary, along with some senior students, engaged in hands-on cooking workshops where they prepared delicious plant-based recipes with the help of parents and teachers. These collaborative sessions not only aimed to teach students valuable culinary skills but also highlighted the benefits of incorporating more plant-based meals into their diets. By focusing on zero meat recipes, the event emphasised sustainable eating habits that can significantly reduce carbon footprints.
What's the Impact Goal?
The primary goal of No Carbon November Impact Day was to raise awareness about climate change and promote sustainable practices among the school community. Through engaging activities, students learned the importance of reducing their carbon footprints and making environmentally conscious choices in their daily lives. This event also strengthened community bonds, as families and staff came together to collaborate and share their experiences.
By participating in the Impact Day, students were inspired to continue their commitment to sustainability beyond November. Every small action contributes to a larger movement, and together, the community made a significant difference. Overall, the No Carbon November Impact Day successfully celebrated the achievements of the school community and looked forward to a more sustainable future. Together, they created a positive impact on the environment and fostered a sense of responsibility towards the planet.
