Welcome to Madagascar! We Like to Move it, Move it!
On Wednesday, 14 June the Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi community was transported from the hustle and bustle of New York to the vibrant jungles of Madagascar for our Junior School production. The College theatre erupted with roars of laughter and applause for the students who brought this fantastic film adaptation to life. Under the spotlight were Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the Hippo, King Julien, the adorable penguins, lemurs, and many other colourful characters that burst onto the stage in spectacular costumes, choreographed song and dance routines, and above all a heartwarming story of enduring friendship.

THEY REALLY MOVED IT, MOVED IT!
Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi's cast of 159 Junior School students rose to the occasion for this year’s production. The main characters performed superbly as a quartet of zoo animals who found themselves caged on an ocean liner and, after taking over the ship, end up in Madagascar. Seven students played the parts of the lemurs, all decked out with suitable black rimmed eyes and joining in the dancing and stage movement with obvious enjoyment.
There was plenty of singing and dancing, choreographed by our dance specialist, Miss Audrey, including a series of exercises featuring handstands and even cartwheels! King Julien had fun hamming it up and joking with his sidekick Maurice. The line-ups on stage, the set pieces involving much movement, and the discipline of all the actors and the singers from the Junior School was most impressive. From the amazing singing of the chorus to the enthusiastic, well-drilled dancing, and not forgetting an authentic-looking penguin shuffle, this was a well-produced and spectacular show.
A huge thank you to all the staff, students and administration support involved in putting the show together. A special mention and thank you to Mr. Wright (Director) and the Year 6 teachers, Mr. Kopfli and Miss Broughman for leading on the Junior School production this year.
